Stories Told Through Harmony

RnB Soul Train is a contemporary soul and R&B duo from the Great Southern region of Western Australia, formed in 2021 by Mata and Jess. Built on a deep musical connection and a shared passion for honest storytelling, the duo create music that feels warm, reflective and deeply human.

What began as intimate acoustic performances throughout the Great Southern gradually evolved into a powerful creative partnership grounded in songwriting, harmony and emotional connection. Through years of performing together, music became a space for Mata and Jess to explore the experiences that shape us — love, healing, purpose, belonging and personal growth.

Defined by rich vocal harmonies and a stripped-back acoustic approach, RnB Soul Train blend elements of soul, R&B, blues and folk into a sound that is both intimate and emotionally resonant. Their music reimagines contemporary soul through an acoustic lens, creating performances that feel authentic, heartfelt and deeply connected.

At the centre of the project is original music. As singer-songwriters, Mata and Jess craft songs inspired by lived experience and emotional honesty — from tender love songs to reflective pieces exploring life’s deeper questions. Their songwriting embraces vulnerability and warmth, inviting listeners into stories that linger long after the music ends.

Their live performances are celebrated for their sincerity, soulful energy and natural chemistry on stage. Whether performing in intimate listening rooms, festivals, theatres or community events, RnB Soul Train create an atmosphere of closeness and connection that draws audiences in.

Since forming, the duo have performed extensively throughout Western Australia, sharing stages with acclaimed Australian artists including Ash Grunwald, Jessie Gordon, Mark Turner, Dulcie and Sunday Lemonade. They have appeared at a wide range of festivals and events including Binalup Festival, Taste the Great Southern, Albany International Folk ’n’ Shanty Festival, Festival of Dusk, Denmark Festival of Voice, Truffle Kerfuffle, Bloom Festival and the Perth Royal Show.

Following the release of their debut EP Love Never Fades, RnB Soul Train completed a 14-show North West tour across the Western Australian coastline in 2025, further establishing their presence as emerging original artists within the Australian soul music landscape. In 2026, the duo were recognised as a Top 20 finalist in the R&B/Hip Hop category at the WAM Music Awards.

At its heart, RnB Soul Train is about creating music that resonates deeply — music grounded in authenticity, connection and the shared experiences that bring people together.
